BREAKING: Sarri appointed to replace Conte at Chelsea
Maurizio Sarri has been appointed as their new Chelsea manager on a three-year contract.
Sarri becomes 13th manager to be appointed by Blues owner Roman Abramovich since taking over Chelsea in 2003. Sarri leaves Napoli with two years remaining on his contract but Carlo Ancelotti's arrival meant that he would not have been at the club next season.
"I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of traveling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action. I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves," he told the club's official website.
"It is an exciting new period in my career. I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves," said Sarri.
He led the Serie A club to a haul of 94 goals last season, the highest number scored in Italy's top tier since the turn of the century.
Sarri is the sixth Italian coach after Gianluca Vialli in 1998, following Claudio Ranieri, Ancelotti, Roberto di Matteo, and Conte. Chelsea is his first managerial job outside his native country.
He joined Napoli in 2015 after guiding Empoli to the top-flight.
