Argentina sack Sampaoli

After what was deemed as a chaotic and embarrassing World Cup for Argentina, The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has dismissed national team coach Jorge Sampaoli.

 A 3-0 group stage defeat to Croatia following a 1-1 draw with Iceland left Argentina on the brink of a humiliating exit in Russia, before just about squeezing through to the knockout phase thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Nigeria. That luck failed in the last 16 against France, however, when they were beaten 4-3 by the eventual tournament winners.

 Career

  Sampaoli got the Argentina job after building a solid reputation in charge of Universidad de Chile, Chile and Sevilla, leaving the Spanish club at the end of the 2016-17 season after guiding them to Champions League football.

 Given the regard many held Sampaoli in, there was great optimism that he would end Argentina's period of underachievement and finally find the balance between getting the best out of Lionel Messi and making the team a success. Argentina's deficiencies through the middle and at the back continued to be exploited and France tore them apart at times, taking full advantage of their lack of pace, but Sampaoli failed to make alterations to address the problems.

 An AFA statement released read: "The Argentine Football Association and Jorge Sampaoli reached a mutual agreement to finish their cycle under the Argentine national team."

Tanzanian out-fit Simba SC have announced the signing of Zambian midfielder Clatous Chota Chama on a two year deal from Lusaka dynamos.  The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the big spenders. Chama joined the Lusaka based club last year after his short stint in Egypt.  A source at Lusaka dynamos has however said the player has moved without the permission of the Club.  "The club is not aware of the deal and will not issue him with the International transfer certificate (ITC) since no transfer fee has been paid, " The source said.  Zambia international will however leave for Turkey with his new team as they start their pre-season in preparation for a new season.

CECAFA Cup final: Kagere starts for Simba as Azam looks to defend title

Meddie Kagere has been handed a starting role for Simba in the CECAFA Cup final match against Azam.  The former Gor Mahia striker will lead the attacks alongside Marcel Kahenza and Mohamed Rashid. Kagere has two goals so far in the tournament. A penalty well - taken against APR of Rwanda and a semi-final lone strike against Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi.  Azam, the title defenders will look to overcome Simba test in the evening in an all Tanzania affair at the National Stadium.  Simba Starting XI: 1.
